Weekly Photo Challenge: Dormant Friendships

Buds of new flowers can remain dormant for years, or spring up from nowhere to go strong.
Spider’s webs can grow all over them, but they can fight through with nurturing.
Just like friendships.

Also posting this as part of the Weekly Photo Challenge: Growth! And using the “postaday” tag purely for the photo challenge, not because I’m doing a post a day!

I shared a similar image on my 365 blog (it was day 12), but I also wanted to share this one. I love how you can see the sun shining through the brown “leaf” and the twinkling tarmac to the side. And I thought a bit of colour and sunshine might make this blog a bit cheerier at the moment!

Nature’s Fire

Walking along a path at night, the white light street lights gave the impression of daylight almost and lit up the trees fantastically. I have no idea what this tree is called, but I think it almost looks like fireworks!

It was taken in the same alleyway as yesterday’s 365 photo. You can view it here.

A “light wheel” spinning at its fastest and a slow shutter speed to get it spinning rather than static. The opposite to the image I posted a while back.

I found the toy an especially interesting thing to photograph, new to my digital camera and all!

This is an image of a “light wheel” belonging to the fosters that I had spinning at full speed and caught this ‘moment‘. Very glad I took a series of photos on the night they got it as, by just the next day, both fosters had broken them!

Hailstorm – Poem

The heavens have opened,
Releasing their ice cold fury,
Down upon the masses.
Skitter, scatter across the window pane,
Imagine those outside, walking,
And the abuse from above, their pain.
I’m inside, tucked up warm and dry,
There’s blue sky up above,
It’s chasing away the grey clouds.
Sticking and sliding, finding a path,
The ice drops leave their trail,
As my lips simply smile.
The sudden dark. The sudden downpour.
Filling the corridors, skylights up above,
Its mark is left.
Small thoughts from the flash,
Moments of beauty in their pain,
The sins are washed away.

There was a hailstorm about 3pm here today. For some reason I found myself smiling at it.

Merry Christmas!

I’m trying to force myself into a festive mood by posting a small collection of random Christmassy images.

The decorations from a meal out last year.
First christmas with my now husband and a trip to Paris a few weeks before.
A local house and all of it’s lights which is identical every year. Although a lot more local houses now light themselves up.
2011’s Christmas Eve and the sun setting earlier.
A giant cracker from a previous Christmas Dinner and the very “busy” table that in itself is filled with 101 happy thoughts, but are just a memory now.
More Tree Decorations to try and inject some fun into things.
From my tree this year.
Santas on display in Macy’s, New York, November 2009.
Another display Santa from Macy’s, New York November 2009.
“Traditional” Red Santa in Macy’s, New York, November 2009.
Huge angels in Macy’s NY, far too big for the top of a Christmas tree!
One of the tens upon tens of fully decorated trees in Macy’s, NY. I have never seen as many trees or differently themed Christmas trees, or baubles in any one shop, or at any one Christmas.
Pink and purple tree in Macy’s. Despite it being November, Macy’s Christmas Spirit was certainly already out. It was truly an out of the world experience. Perhaps if I were there I would have my Christmas festive mood!
And to end, an Elvis themed tree. Only in America…

So there are my pick of the best images I have found after trawling through all of my photo folders. There are so many memories of good Christmases, fingers crossed that I get over this current funk and wake up tomorrow, ready to make more happy Christmas Day memories.

Merry Christmas everyone!
