Ten Day Challenge: One Picture

Okay the final challenge and according to the small print on the image file it has to be a picture of me. The previous Challenge Entries: Ten Secrets, Nine Loves, Eight Fears, Seven Wants, Six Places, Five Foods, Four Books, Three Films and Two Songs.

This is a poetry, photo and TTC blog and I hope that’s how it remains. No matter if I ever stop any of those three things.

Despite the number of images I’ve taken and the small proportion that have made it on to here, there aren’t really any pics of me. I think in the About Me section there might be a distance shot of me but for the culmination of my challenge, I shall reveal the truth.

Having read the Stork Diaries’ blog on those remaining in the “trenches“, this is the only time I will do this. I have managed to get out of the trench and am crossing No Man’s Land as we speak. I still worry daily that I won’t make it to the other side.

I still have regular thoughts on TTC and I still consider myself infertile.

However, other than this entry and the One Picture, this blog is about TTC not actually succeeding. There’ll be another blog for that. Maybe.

Here is me:

Me, six months pregnant.

I have one more blog post as part of the TTC journey that resulted in the above picture, it’s about the 7 week scan.

Ten Day You Challenge – Nine Loves

After Ten Secrets, here are my nine loves as part of the Ten Day “You” Challenge:

  1. I love cookies. Preferably soft cookies and normally plain-ish – chocolate is the best!
  2. I love writing.
  3. I love taking photos.
  4. I love falling in love with characters through writing, reading or watching them.
  5. I would love to visit San Diego, all of Greece and the Egyptian Pyramids.
  6. I love my bed.
  7. I love eating!
  8. I love cheese and onion crisps.
  9. I love dancing in a random flail my limbs around kind of way, not with any real talent!

Next up: Eight Fears.

Photo Project: 365!

I’ve decided to bite the bullet and start a new project, with its very own blog! There’s nothing there yet, except for the About page, but I thought I would announce it and then try not to mention it too much on here.

It is a blog purely for photos. I am going to attempt my first ever 365 project. There is no theme, other than taking photos and hoping to use creativity rather than randomness. This means that from now on, I will be carrying my normal camera with me all of the time and, at the least, finding my micro SD card for my phone just in case I do ever forget my camera. My fantastic SLR will only be for special occasions/plentiful time.

Hopefully it won’t detract from here, either in time or in content because I will still post images to this blog. Especially the Fabulous Friday Photo projects. The new blog site is purely for one-a-day brand new images.

And I’m hoping to start it tomorrow!

Photo Challenge 1

I got a book for Christmas: Digital Photography Step By Step, Tom Ang. And as I started going through it I stumbled upon little “missions” every few pages (so far anyway).

Liking the first few, I decided to give them a go and post them here. Today I actually did challenges one and two, but am only going to post challenge one today. Here it is:

The Brief:

  • Ask a friend or family member to name something at random – the first thing that they think of. Make a set of pictures based around this subject, and apply the approach that comes most naturally to you.

Points to Remember:

  • Allow yourself the freedom to shoot or treat the subject in any way you feel is appropriate.
  • Aim to create a certain number of pictures as your target and try to revise and improve the images in the set once you reach the target amount.
  • Have fun with the idea of being obliged to shoot something you may not have thought of as worthy of photographing.
  • Experiment with the relationships between the images within the set.

I decided on two images to make public, simply because I also chose to ask all four members of the house. My mother answered aerosol can.

My husband answered juicer.

The 4 year old foster child answered car.

The 3 year old foster child originally answered “Grandpa in my Pocket” (a TV show), so I asked him what his favourite thing was and he answered “Lana” – my mother, who hates having her photo taken.

Here are the two shots each results:

This was the last juicer image taken, but my second favourite. I like the shadow and how it shows both parts of the juicer.

I really wanted to get a shot of the juicer ring hanging and of the shadow, too. The shadow failed!

I couldn't get the colouring right, but chose this image because of the shadow leading into the image of the can.

The lighting from the flash works here without giving too much glare and you can see the detail of the hole.

Black and white cars.

As I put all the cars away, I saw this and loved the messiness and the bright colours.

My mum is known for her jewellery and love of elephants. Being restricted to what I could shoot, this jumped out at me.

A close of the rings my mum wears. I centered the focusing, not on her wedding or engagement rings, but on the ring that once belonged to my dad.

What do you think? I think I forgot the “relate to each other” part, so I might do a challenge 1a at some point. Challenge two next weekend!
